Ashford resident calls Kent Fire and Rescue service to Brookfield Road mistaking red sky for big blaze

Firefighters were left scratching their heads when a caller dialled 999 for a huge blaze lighting up the sky.

But instead of finding an inferno they saw... a beautiful red sunset.

Two pumps were sent to the false alarm on Brookfield Road in Ashford last night, but soon discovered the caller had made a mistake.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "It was a very red sky last night and the caller thought it was a fire.

"We took a look around the area, spoke to the caller and resolved it had been a false alarm."
