Ambient electronica and folk musicians will takeover a church in Ashford this weekend for two very different gigs.

The Orb will be bringing their unique brand of blissed-out beats to Revelation St Mary’s from 7.30pm tonight.

The duo – Dr Alex Paterson and long-time musical partner Thomas Fehlmann – are perhaps best known for their 1991 dance-floor hit Little Fluffy Clouds, and for spearheading the ambient house movement.

Support will come from Aliji, the resident DJ at Inspiral Lounge in London’s trendy Camden Town.

From 7.45pm tomorrow, stories and songs of struggle over the land beneath our feet will be expressed through song and spoken word.

Entitled Three Acres And A Cow, the concert will give a brief history of land rights and protest in folk music.

Folk singer-songwriter Robin Grey, supported by guests Green Diesel, Adrian O and the Highworth Folk Band, will explore the past of enclosure, privatisation and dispossession of land-based communities.

Robin’s music is influenced by the work of folk luminaries like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, as well as the more recent vanguard of the genre, from anti-folk pioneer Ani Difranco to the beguiling melodies of harpist and singer Joanna Newsom.

The evening will also feature spoken word performances from a storyteller, focusing on tales of past lives in Kent.

For more information, or to order tickets, visit the Revelation St Mary's website or go to the Ashford Gateway Plus in Church Road, or Right Track music in Tufton Street.
