A28 Canterbury Road closed after crash at Kempe's Corner near Wye

Two people have been taken to hospital and a road was closed after two vehicles collided near Wye.

The accident happened at the junction with A28 Canterbury Road and Harville Road just before 12.45pm.

Officers attended along with paramedics and the fire service and two people were taken to the William Harvey Hospital.

The A28 was closed between the junctions with White Hill and The Street and remained shut until about 8pm while officers from Kent Police's serious collision investigation unit (SCIU) investigated.

Police tweeted: "Officers from our collision investigation unit are at the scene of a two-car collision on the #A28 near #Wye.

"The road is likely to be closed for several hours while investigations are carried out. Anyone who witnessed the collision should call us on 01622 798538."

The Stagecoach 1A/X services were disrupted as a result.

The bus operator tweeted: "Due to the earlier RTC on the A28 at Kempe's Corner, 1A/X services are still disrupted.

"Due to the nature of the RTC we will likely be unable to serve Wye for the remainder of the service.

"Should the road reopen services will resume into Wye."

The A2042 Faversham Road was also slow in both directions as traffic diverted.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and find other routes where possible.
