A runaway dog closed part of a motorway today.

Police were called to the M20 near Ashford to reports of a dog running along the London-bound carriageway near junction 10.

Police closed the road

Highways England tweeted: "Ashford traffic is held due to a dog on the carriageway. Police do have the dog under control and should be off the motorway shortly."

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 10.08am to reports that a dog was running in the live lanes of the London-bound carriageway of the M20, near junction 10.

"Officers attended and the carriageway was briefly closed whilst the dog was taken to a safe area."
