John Knight, former school caretaker

Woodchurch primary school has paid tribute to caretaker of the past 14 years.

Long-term Woodchurch resident John Knight, of Lower Road, died of cancer a fortnight ago, aged 65.

He had just started drawing his pension having retired from the school three weeks earlier. His wife, Christine, described him as a "loving, happy character".

Deputy head teacher of Woodchurch C of E School, Matthew Easton, who left the school this summer, said: "I was sad to hear of John’s death as I worked closely with John over the years I was deputy head."

On behalf of the school he said: "Through snow, wind and storms he has steadfastly prepared the school for the children and staff. My lasting memory, and certainly for many of the children, will be of Mr Knight cycling up and down to school early in the morning and late at night. His quiet dedication to the school and staff will be missed."
