Sea cadet who died on training ship 'from Kent'

Investigations are continuing today to find out how a teenage Kent Sea Cadet died after falling from the rigging of a ship in the Solent.

The 14-year-old was on board the training ship, TS Royalist, which had taken part in celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the Sea Cadet movement.

The teenager was one of 19 cadets on board for a week-long excercise and was bringing in the sails when the incident happened in Stokes Bay near Gosport in Hampshire.

The teenager was airlifted to hospital but died.

The Sea Cadets are working with the Maritime Accident Investigation Branch to establish what happened.

There were reportedly 10 staff onboard the brig with the youngsters, who were aged 13 and 18. An investigation into the tragedy has begun.
