Another town centre shop could be left vacant, after a bank dropped its plans to take over from the current occupant.

Clarks shoes is planning to leave their premises in Ashford High Street once their lease comes to an end.

Nationwide had been considering moving from their current premises further down the high street, to an expanded branch in the Clarks shop, located prominently at the entrance to County Square shopping centre.

Planning permission was granted by Ashford Borough Council in September 2013, but the firm has confirmed they are no longer planning to move.

It is not known when the current Clarks lease expires.
