Teenager from Ashford arrested after Wittersham shop worker 'threatened with weapon'

A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and possessing a firearm after a shop worker was reportedly threatened with a weapon.

Armed officers and a police helicopter were spotted in Wittersham, near Tenterden, at the scene of the incident this morning.

Police had been called to reports just after 7.40am that a boy had swiped booze from the Wittersham Village Store in Poplar Road.

A spokesman for the force said: "During the incident, he is said to have to have threatened a member of staff with a weapon before leaving the area."

They confirmed a 17-year-old boy from the Ashford area had been arrested on suspicion of robbery and possessing a firearm.

"He remains in custody as enquiries continue and a BB gun has also been seized," they added.
