A teenage girl has been talked down from a bridge over the M20 in Ashford today.

Police were called after a motorist spotted a 16-year-old girl sitting on a bridge over the M20 near Junction 9 facing the oncoming traffic on the London-bound carriageway.

When officers arrived a woman was with the girl and at about 11.20am she got down from the bridge safely.

Police spokesman Jon Green said: "She has been taken to William Harvey Hospital for an assessment."
