A convenience store was raided after thieves smashed their way through the front of the building in the early hours of the morning.

Scratch cards, alcohol and cigarettes were taken from the Co-op store in Kennington, Ashford, at about 2.30am.

Police arrived at the store shortly after 4am after receiving a report of burglary.

The shop front has been repaired

A police spokeswoman said: "It is thought entry was gained by smashing the front door and an unknown quantity of cigarettes, scratch cards and alcohol was taken.

"Any witnesses are asked to call police on 017843 222289, quoting reference 46/9635/18."

"The Co-op takes retail crime very seriously and implements a range of measures to both deter criminal activity and to aid convictions.

"We appeal for anyone with information to come forward to the police.”

Last month, a brave teenager was hailed a hero after he faced off a hammer-wielding robber outside the store.

Brandon Hook, 16, chased two men after they fled the Co-op store with a basket full of unpaid goods.
