Update: 1,000 tyres on fire in Great Chart

More than 1,000 tyres have caught fire on farmland near The Street in Great Chart.

Fire crews have been tackling the blaze since around 7pm yesterday evening.

Two fire engines and an all-terrain vehicle are currently on the scene.

Residents living in the village are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.

Firefighters are also warning residents in Godinton Park and Hothfield to close their windows due to the smoke.

A spokesman from the fire service said: "The cause of the fire is not yet known and there are no reported injuries.

"Advice remains in place for residents living in close proximity of The Street, Great Chart, to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke from fire involving approximately 1000 tyres that broke out yesterday evening."
