UK Power Networks apologise after Ashford town centre taken out by power cut

A large part of Ashford town centre was taken out by a power cut earlier this afternoon.

UK Power Networks engineers were in the high street from 1pm working to fix the problem, which affected 435 premises.

But a spokesman for the electricity distributor said all of the affected homes, shops and businesses have been switched back on.

The spokesman said engineers were called to their customers in Vicarage Lane and High Street area of Ashford.

She said: "After a power interruption which initially affected 435 customers at 1.05pm, engineers managed to restore power to 105 customers within half an hour.

"All the remaining electricity supplies were restored in stages between 1.42pm and 2.06pm.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Drivers were warned to approach the town centre with caution, as a number of traffic signals were affected by the power cut.
