Stone flaggings to be sanded down

The newly laid York stone slabs in Tenterden High Street are to get a close shave.
Highways bosses have bowed to residents’ concerns over the safety of the new paving laid over the past three months by telling contractors to sand them down.
Work began on the pavement shave on Tuesday and is expected to take another fortnight, with Kent Highways picking up the extra £1,500 bill for the remedial work.
A KCC spokesman said: “Contractors will be chipping off the ridges from any uneven edges and smoothing down the surfaces.
“They won’t be completely smooth, as that in itself could also be hazardous in the wet.”
Any stones yet to be laid will be sanded before they are put down.
The paving stones are expected to be among issues discussed at Tenterden’s annual town meeting, which will be held at Tenterden Town Hall from 7.30pm on Monday.
