A village green that is used to teach more than 80 youngsters how to play cricket has been vandalised twice in one week.

Boughton and Eastwell cricket club secretary Michael Carney said that tyre marks "as deep as trenches in some areas" have been left across the open space at The Lees, Boughton Aluph, near Ashford.

It is suspected that vehicles were driven over it on two occasions last week, with the last being on Friday.

Mr Carney said this is not the first time it's happened, and that the club had to fork out £800 in repairs last year.

He said: "It is a lot of work to rectify trenches, which they are in some areas.

"We are only a small club and it is difficult for us to raise funds."

The land is owned by the parish council, and Mr Carney said that talks are going ahead to try and fence the area due to repeated acts of vandalism.

"I don't understand the satisfaction," he added.

"This just puts us back.

"We are in negotiations to see if there is a way we can safeguard the green, but still allow access to villagers."

He said more than 80 seven to 18-year-olds play cricket there, along with the senior teams who are in the Kent League.

The club welcomes cash donations to help with repairs.
