A leisure centre in Ashford has reopened after a visitor was 'violently sick' in a swimming pool.

The Stour Centre - which was partially closed off this morning after a swimmer vomited in the main pool - reopened at 12pm.

The water quality has been assessed by staff, who have deemed it safe for the public to re-enter the pool.

A spokesperson for Ashford Leisure Trust (ALT) said: "Due to an earlier incident the main pool will be closed until this afternoon.

"Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused."

It is not the first time it has unexpectedly closed, as bosses were forced to close the main pool in September after a child vomited.

Last month, Ashford Borough Council announced that a new contractor is set to take over the running of The Stour Centre and Julie Rose Stadium.

The pool has since reopened. Stock

Freedom Leisure will replace the Ashford Leisure Trust (ALT) as the council's leisure operator next year following the successful signing of a 15-year lease.

The move will bring significant investment to the leisure facilities, with both sites earmarked for upgrades
