Young man and woman killed in fatal crash on Plurenden Road in Woodchurch, near Ashford

Two people have died in a tragic crash involving a car and a truck.

An 18-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in Woodchurch, near Ashford.

They were in a Vauxhall Corsa travelling west on Plurenden Road when it collided with a white DAF truck at the junction with Bethersden Road.

The crash happened at about 5pm yesterday.

Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The young man worked at Tenterden Leisure Centre.

In a statement, bosses said the site would be closing earlier than normal today following the tragic news.

“Please be aware that we are having to close the centre earlier than planned today as our staff team deal with the devastating news of the passing of one of our colleagues in a fatal car accident yesterday evening,” the statement read.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.”

The leisure centre will shut at 9pm tonight and the timetable for classes has changed.

From midday until 3pm it will be lane swimming only, while from 3.30pm until 6pm swim school will run as normal and then the pool will close.

Centre bosses continued: “All other facilities and timetables will operate as normal until 9pm when the centre will close.

“We thank you for your support and understanding at this time and further updates on our opening hours and programme will be provided as soon as we know more.”
