Contractors have started work on a derelict building in Ashford town centre which has sat abandoned for years.

Hoardings were placed around the former Fabric Warehouse in Godinton Road last year as developers prepared to transform the site into 28 one, two and three-bedroom flats.

They have now started enabling works on the site by removing the roof and facade in readiness for construction to begin next month.

Bosses say the build programme will take 15 months, with completion expected in mid-2021.

Bethersden-based Clarus Homes bought the site in August and is behind the project, which will feature 41 parking spaces and will be dubbed 'The Market Quarter'.

Managing director Chris Dickens hopes some of the flats will be completed before the end of the year.
