Council contractors dismantled a wall after fears it would collapse onto pedestrians and traffic along a main road.

Problems along the wall in Canterbury Road near the Bybrook Road junction were reported to Kent County Council Highways last week.

It follows reports that a section of the 10 ft-high brick wall had fallen down and caused problems for traffic on Saturday.

But KCC spokesman Thom Morris said: “The wall along Canterbury Road did not collapse. It was showing signs of instability and was dismantled as part of our regular programme of works.”

The repair works continued on Monday and Tuesday this week, with bricklayers working in front of the properties. A footpath has been blocked and will reopen when the work is complete.
