Ashford United assure fans over future after revealing they have fallen foul of £150,000 financial scam

Ashford United say they have fallen foul of a financial scam after revealing receivers are being called in to recover a £150,000 loan.

But the board have moved to ease fears over United’s future by assuring fans the club remain solvent and will play on in Southern Counties East.

Details of the scam have not been revealed but lawyers for Ashford are due in court today to fight the action.

A statement, published on the club’s website, said: “Ashford United Football Club Ltd have fallen foul of a financial scam that has caused much undue unrest and speculation over the last few days.

“Following on from last night’s board meeting, the following results are announced.

“At Companies House the club have a section published, announcing that an official receiver is shortly to be put in place to recover a £150,000 loan.

"Today (Friday 6th November 2015) lawyers will be in court on the club’s behalf in order to remove this most wrongful unjust situation and details will be forwarded from the court proceedings to the Fraud Squad.

"Ashford United Football Club Ltd is DEFINITELY NOT insolvent and has the fullest intention to continue to play and be a part of the Southern Counties East title race for this season.”

The club's new 3G pitch (pictured above), which cost around £400,000, was installed at Homelands Stadium in Kingsnorth over the summer.

The club is playing at home tomorrow (Saturday) in a Southern Counties East League game against Crowborough.
