Paul Bowden-Brown has stood down as Ashford United's director of football - but the 75-year-old isn't ready to retire.

The Nuts & Bolts announced Bowden-Brown's departure in a statement on their website and said he is "moving on to pastures new".

The former Maidstone, Thamesmead and Ramsgate chairman was appointed to the Ashford board last summer.

But his work is done, with the club safely in the Isthmian South East play-offs and planning permission granted for ground improvements at Homelands.

"Paul has assisted the club in securing a massive chance of promotion and also assisted in the background for all our planning applications which have now been granted," the statement said.

"With all these goals now achieved, Paul is looking for more challenges and all here at Ashford United are thankful for the enormous efforts with his help.

"Paul is coming up to his 76th birthday and we can't see any sign of his enthusiasm for non-league football receding, despite considerable warnings from his doctors.

"We wish him all the very best and no doubt will hear of more achievements and success whoever he decides to help and assist next."
