The Ashford & District RRC Lockdown League is over but a one-off 10 mile run kept runners competitive.

Laurence Teeling was the fastest over the distance with the A&D Road Running Club athlete coming home just outside of the 60 minute mark, with a time of 1:00.26. Leading the female runners home was Invicta East Kent’s Sarah Gruber in 1:06.36.

There were 11 different clubs represented in the top 12 positions, demonstrating the countywide appeal for the virtual running series, which started during the Covid-19 lockdown. The league recently ended but one-off races are now taking place for those who took part.

Finishing behind Teeling in second was a competitor from further afield, with Isle of Wight Road Runners’ Ross Wilkes finishing as runner-up in a time of 1:02.36. Taking third was Virtually Last’s James Brooke (1:05.05).

Leading runners included Alun Rodgers (Medway & Maidstone 1:05.12), Jon Eaton (South Kent Harriers 1:06.46), Henry Cox (Canterbury Harriers 1:06.59), Tim Warren (Folkestone RC 1:08.53), Andrew Edwards (Virtually Last 1:10.03) and Liam Holman (Premature Acceleration 1:11.50).

Vera Hunter was the second placed lady, the Maidstone Harriers athlete coming home in 1:12.29 ahead of Taryne McPherson (Medway & Maidstone) and fastest under-35 Rhian Shrimplin (A&D RRC).

Lucy Jackson of Beginners2Runners was the leading ladies 55-64 runner while Ann Fidge of A&D was top over-65 female competitor.

Runners are now challenged to see how quick they can run a half marathon.
