Electronic aims for athletics stadium

FUND-RAISERS are hoping to realise £25,000 to equip Ashford's Julie Rose athletics stadium with an electronic scoreboard.

The scoreboard would be similar to those used at other leading stadiums, showing individual results as well as keeping spectators informed of running team scores.

Behind the plan are the Friends of the Julie Rose Stadium whose first fund-raising event is a salmon or rump steak barbecue at the stadium on Saturday, August 17, between noon-2pm. Tickets cost £12.50 for adults and £5 for children. Vegetarians will be catered for.

The Friends are also encouraging runners of all levels to obtain sponsorship towards the scoreboard by running in the annual 10km on Sunday, October 13. They also seek volunteers to help run meetings at the stadium.

Further details may be obtained from Norman Ayres, telephone 01233 620767.
