Action from the final

KENNINGTON struck from the spot to secure the Ashford Saturday section Charity Trophy in the delayed final at Headcorn on Saturday.

They overcame Leeds Utd — it wasn’t a good weekend for Leeds Utd sides — from the Maidstone League to take the trophy for the first time since 1989.

However, it was third time lucky for Kennington having been in the last two finals as well.

The combination of a hard pitch and stiff breeze made ball control difficult and meant that play was scrappy at times, leading to a goal-less first half, but Kennington were awarded a penalty after an hour’s play to take the lead.

Although Leeds pressed for the remainder of the game they were unable to secure an equaliser.
