A £50 prize awaits anyone who breaks the men's or women's course records in this year's Quest 10km road race from the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford, on October 13.

Present holders are South Kent Harrier John Creane with 32:31 and Invicta East Kent's rising young international star Charlotte Dale who clocked 33:31.

Once again the organisers have been told by the police and Borough Council to make an 8.30am start for the big race, but there will again be a continental style breakfast included in the entry fees.

Entries need to be in soon, as the fee on the day has risen to £8. Closing date for postal entries is October 6. Other entries have also risen to keep pace with the race costs with affiliated runners rising to £6 and unaffiliated runners to £7.

The annual Brakes Corporate Challenge will not be run this year as Brakes have decided not to continue their sponsorship but the Friends of the Julie Rose Stadium are hoping runners will support their attempts to improve facilities at the stadium.

Many will be using the race to raise money for an electronic scoreboard at the stadium and there will be many other supporting their various special causes.

A special part of the day will again be the children's races held after the main event. There are three fun runs again for the Under-nines, 9-13 year olds and the 13 to 15 year olds.
