Residents reported the fire at around 3.30pm, which prompted Orpington Drone Watch to take to the skies and picture the dark smoke.

It can be seen billowing above some greenery in the fields near Kent.

People have taken to social media to share pictures and videos of the smoke, which can be seen rising behind a residential street.

The smoke has left some residents scratching their heads, with Ella Ellis posting: "Can anyone see the black smoke around the Sidcup and Bexley?"

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: "We were called to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service with a fire in a field on Birchwood Road at 1545 hrs.

"Three engines attended to assist and the incident is ongoing."

More as we get it.
