A new housing complex dubbed ‘Millionaires’ Row’ is under construction on the site of a former egg farm.

Pentland Homes is currently building 30 homes off Stone Street, in an area of outstanding natural beauty at Stelling Minnis, near Canterbury.

Nine will be shared ownership properties, while the rest will be high-end homes ranging in price from £430,000 to more than £1 million.

They are replacing derelict industrial units which used to house thousands of chickens before the Stonegate egg packing facility left the site in 2005.

The mini housing estate - named Radstone Gate - will comprise homes boasting up to six bedrooms.

Pentland managing director Martin Hart said: “Almost every property’s design is unique - that’s rare for a new-build project.

“This area has been a blot on the landscape, so it’s great to deliver high-specification homes on a disused brownfield site.

“There used to be an egg farm here with thousands of chickens, but for years it’s been empty with ugly buildings and hardstanding ground.

The first homes at the seven-acre site are due to be complete by April.

Mr Hart says the homes are sympathetically designed to fit in with the area of outstanding natural beauty.

As reported in last week’s Gazette, Pentland is also behind the 750-home Saxon Fields development off Cockering Road, in Thanington.

Quinn Estates submitted a planning application for the Stelling Minnis site in 2015 before gaining approval in 2017.

While Pentland is building the homes, Canterbury-based firm Quinn Estates is delivering the commercial aspect of the development, having secured the go-ahead to build office blocks near the entrance of the site.

Upon granting permission, Folkestone and Hythe District Council imposed conditions of reducing the speed limit along Stone Street to 50mph.

There will also be new footpath access to Thorn Lane, and the complex will also feature a play area.
