A desperate appeal has been launched by a Kent discovery park to help rescue two tiny bear cubs abandoned by their mother and left to die.

The Wildwood Trust, which is located between Canterbury and Herne Bay, have appealed for funds to save Mish and Lucy - who were ditched at only a few weeks old.

They were found deserted in a snow drift, high in the Albanian mountains and at risk from poachers and predators.

Multiple attempts to reintroduce them in the wild had failed as they were too young to survive alone without their mother.

It triggered an urgent search to find them a home again - for them to be happy and to lead a natural life.

The Wildwood Trust was asked if they would be able to provide them with a home and they agreed.

But their current enclosure in Belgium is only temporary - so Mish and Lucy will be coming to Wildwood in a few weeks, which is much sooner than originally expected.

An appeal by the trust states: "To avoid future health issues, and to enable them to express a full range of natural behaviour, Mish and Lucy must be transferred to a permanent, more suitable home urgently - it is vital that we bring them to their new home at Wildwood before winter."

The trust desperately needs cash to help raise funds to complete the rescue and finish building their new home.

They have already raised more than £34,000 for the bears and need to reach a target of £250,000.
