Could a trip to the cinema be the key to healing USA-North Korea relations and diffusing the threat of nuclear conflict?

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby thinks it could be, urging both men to watch 1980s film The Day After - which follows a fictional nuclear war between NATO forces and the Warsaw Pact - before they meet later this year.

The Church of England leader's comments followed the announcement on Friday that the USA and North Korean leaders have agreed to meet in May.

Speaking to Canterbury Christ Church student news outlet Unified, the Archbishop urged the leaders to watch the film to get a clear picture of what they were trying to avoid.

Asked what his advice to the leaders was, he said: "Go and watch one of those films, there is one called The Day After which is about a nuclear attack.

"Get that picture in your mind before you meet and see what you're trying to avoid happening in the world."

He also urged the leaders to listen carefully to each other as well as pushing their own views.

President Trump has stated he expects North Korea to stop nuclear testing prior to the meeting - for which no date has yet been fixed.
