Awards for unsung heroes

Volunteering has earned three people unsung hero awards from the city council.

Audrey Quinn, Fred Whale and Olive Frost were preseted with framed certificates and glass bowls.

Making the presentations, Lord Mayor Cyril Windsor said: “The council really appreciates what all of you have done within the district and the way you have helped the community.”

Mrs Quinn, of Swalecliife Avenue, Herne Bay, has been a volunteer since 1978 for organisations such as St John’s first aid team, the Brownies, Arthritis Care, Age Concern, and Herne Bay Volunteer Centre.

Mr Whale, of Holm Oak Close, is a member of the Royal British Legion in Canterbury and transports elderly and disabled people to shopping or attendance at meetings and clubs. He is also a city council street monitor.

Olive Frost, of Shelley Avenue, Canterbury. Olive has been a volunteer for the Northgate Over 60s service from the beginning, helping in the planning of the organisation and the fund-raising.
