Thousands of pounds worth of drugs have been found in a bag hidden in undergrowth by a 'civic-minded' passer-by who handed it into police.

The bag, containing about 100 wraps of cannabis, was discovered in the St Stephen's area of Canterbury on Sunday.

It prompted police to issue a tweet inviting the owner to come to the police station for a chat.

A police spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing to identify anyone involved in the supply of drugs and anyone with information should call Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 03-0514."

He added that the drugs, which have a street value of up to £2,000, would be destroyed when the investigation is concluded.
