A body found in woodland near Canterbury has been identified as that of a local man.

Officers were called on December 30 after a body was discovered in woods near Howfield Lane, a country road in Chartham.

The man's identity was initially a mystery, prompting police to carry out door-to-door enquiries in the area with a photograph as they worked to find out more.

But on January 11, he was identified as a man in his 60s from the Canterbury area.

His next-of-kin, who do not live in the UK, were notified last week once they had been located.

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be compiled for the coroner.
