Police are hunting a yob who hurled a brick through the windscreen of a lorry on a busy dual carriageway.

The missile was thrown from a flyover on the A2 at Wincheap, near Canterbury, showering the shocked driver with glass.

He managed to keep control of the truck and escaped serious injury, but his bosses say the reckless act could have caused carnage and death on one of Kent’s busiest roads.

The skip lorry was being driven by David Bryce, who was heading back to Aylesham-based East Kent Recycling Ltd when the vehicle was targeted at 4pm yesterday.

His colleague, Mick Marsh, said: "Fortunately, Dave only suffered a few minor nicks, but it was a miracle no one was seriously hurt or killed because it could have caused carnage on such a busy road.

"Dave was only aware of a figure on the bridge a second or two before it happened and was really shaken up by it.

"I have contacted the police and both the city and county councils, but unfortunately there are no cameras covering the bridge to record what happened and who did it.

"But this person needs catching before he causes a major tragedy."

Police say a group of youths was seen on the bridge and could be important witnesses.

A force spokesman said: "This was extremely irresponsible and could have had very serious consequences, including injury and even death."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting crime reference ZY/16317/16.
