A walk of light through life - that is how cancer survivor John Rogers described the past decade.

Since undergoing a life-saving operation for stomach cancer in 1998, John and wife Marlene have raised £47,000 for the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

They have set a £50,000 target and are £5,200 nearer after an event in Canterbury.

Around 100 cancer survivors and family supporters look part in a walk of light, carrying red and white balloons with lights inside them from Dane John Gardens to the Memorial Gardens at Canterbury Cathedral.

The Rogers were inspired to organise the walk after taking part in a similar event with family in the USA.

White balloons were held by cancer survivors and red balloons by family, friends and supporters.

John said: “It is an emotional and uplifting event, demonstrating that there is always hope for people diagnosed with cancer.

“The decade has been our own walk of light through life.”
