Two tries in the space of four minutes by centre Pat Sykes helped Canterbury to a 29-18 win in National League 2 South and complete a season’s double over Kent rivals Westcombe Park at Merton Lane on Saturday.

The city club trailed 15-10 at half-time but Sykes (pictured) struck twice early in the second-half, first getting a hand on Tom Best’s sliced drop goal attempt, and then adding the second after good work by Gert De Kock and Michael Melford.

Sykes set-up Canterbury’s first try for Carlton Littlechild. Melford got the second and Best added the fifth, five minutes from time to settle the contest and secure a bonus point.

De Kock added two conversions in a team display full of pace and power, the only downside being the loss of lock Matt Lister taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

Park had claimed an early advantage with tries by Douglas Abbott and Graham Purdy and a penalty by Lee Audis.
