Mercedes written off after blaze at Denstead Lane, Chartham Hatch

Firefighters were called to tackle a car blaze on a driveway in the early hours of today.

The Mercedes caught fire at Denstead Lane, Chartham Hatch, at about 12.30am.

Two fire engines from the Canterbury station were called out and crews were at the scene for an hour.

The car was completely written off but the occupants of the house the driveway was on got out safely.

The cause of the blaze is not known.

Later in the morning, at 5.30am, Canterbury firefighters were called out to tackle a blaze at a British Heart Foundation recycling bin outside the city’s Morrisons store.

The metal bin was left intact but the contents destroyed.

The cause of that blaze is also not yet confirmed.
