A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a three-car smash on the A2 in Faversham yesterday afternoon.

The 52-year-old from Herne Bay was arrested after his van smashed into two parked cars and one of them slammed into the side of a house.

The Renault Clio that hit the house is now a write-off, just two days after the owner bought the car.

Two fire engines, police and an ambulance were called to the scene near the Salters Lane junction at 12.30pm.

Owner of the silver Clio, trainee tattooist Mary Boshier, 23, said: "I only bought the car a couple of days ago, so this is really annoying."

"The car was parked up outside my house and the van hitting it rammed it all the way into a house two doors down.

"It's lucky nobody was inside the car."

Police spokesman Andy Saunders said: "Police were called at 12.30pm to reports of a road traffic collision in Canterbury Road, near the junction with Salter Lane.

"A van is believed to have collided with a Renault Clio and a Fiat Punto which in turn has led to damage to a property in the road.

"Secamb were called and have taken the driver of the van to William Harvey Hospital. It is believed that there are no serious injuries."
