A story about a child’s dream kept youngsters enthralled at the annual Cathedral Christingle service.

It was told by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, who led the service as patron of The Children’s Society which organised the event.

Children carried more than 400 candles for the celebration. Among those taking part were pupils from Reculver School and the choir of St Mary of Charity Church at Faversham.

Diocesan president of the Children’s Society, David Budd, said: “The Archbishop kept the children enthralled with a story about a child’s dream. It was wonderful to hear him engage with them so effectively at their level.”

Windchimes, a respite care home for children at Herne Bay, will benefit from the collection made during the service which has been around £5,000 in past years.
