A group of puppies named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have found new homes, sparking jubilation at an animal charity.

The Dogs Trust received five Dobermann Weimaraner crossbreeds at its centre near Canterbury in July after two unneutered dogs accidentally had a litter.

The puppies – April, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello – are all named after characters from the famous film and comic book series.

They arrived at the charity unvaccinated and without microchips, but staff at the Radfall Road say they are “delighted” to have rehomed them.

Joanna Stuckey, centre manager at Dogs Trust Canterbury, said: “As soon as the dogs arrived, they were assessed, bathed, micro-chipped, and vaccinated. They were subsequently put up for adoption and are now thriving in fantastic forever homes.

“While this story has a happy ending, we still have many dogs who are in search of their forever home – and are looking for loving owners!”

The charity, which is home to 21 rehoming centres in the UK, is also calling on more people to offer a temporary home to dogs until they find their forever homes.

The Dogs Trust covers all the essential costs whilst a dog is in a foster home, including vet bills, food, bedding, and toys.

A spokesman added: “Fostering is a great opportunity for dog lovers to care for a dog in their home without the long-term commitment that comes with owning a dog.

“Not only does this mean that the charity can support even more dogs, but it gives dogs waiting to find their forever family the chance to be cared for in a home environment.”
