Dog attacks child in Cumberland Avenue, Canterbury

A child has been flown to hospital after being attacked by a dog.

Police were called to Cumberland Avenue, Canterbury just before 3pm today.

Officers attended, along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and an air ambulance, and the child was flown to a London hospital.

The condition of the child is unknown at this stage.

The victim is thought to be a nine year old boy.

The dog was seized by officers and a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for Kent Police said "inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing".

Witnesses reported seeing eight police cars and two ambulances on the scene as well as the air ambulance.

One man said the dog involved appeared to be a "big, pit bull type".
