'Dave the Rave' steals poppy appeal box from Caffè Nero in Canterbury

A callous thief has admitted stealing a poppy appeal box from a city coffee shop.

David Gallagher, of no fixed address, raided Caffè Nero in High Street, Canterbury, on November 8 - just three days before Remembrance Sunday.

The 49-year-old entered the building as a trespasser and also stole staff tips. The total value of stolen cash is unknown.

Gallagher - whose aliases include "Dave the Rave" - pleaded guilty to theft at Canterbury Magistrates' Court the next day.

He was committed to Canterbury Crown Court for sentencing at a later date.
