A man has been jailed and will not be able to drive until 2014 after he ignored his second driving ban in three years.

Peter Savage, 29, a roofer from Notley Terrace, Canterbury, was spotted by police behind the wheel and was finally stopped after his car was blocked in by a patrol car in Church Lane, Sturry, in July.

Appearing before magistrates, Savage admitted driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance on July 17, 2008.

He had denied failing to provide a specimen and failing to cooperate with provision of a specimen of breath on July 17.

He had also denied driving whilst disqualified and having no insurance on June 13, 2008, when he was spotted by a member of the public after his photograph had appeared on the front page of the Kentish Gazette.

Savage was convicted and sentenced to 180 days in prison and banned from driving until October, 2014.

East Kent police commander Ch Supt John Molloy said: “Mr Savage had a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of the public.

"He has had ample time to remedy his behaviour but has been criminally reckless and rightly goes to prison.

“All too often we see the tragic consequences of this type of selfish and dangerous behaviour."
