Canterbury Road in Challock closed after tree falls on power cables and crash involving van

Motorists suffered delays after a van crashed a fallen tree, blocking a busy road.

Kent County Council Highways teams confirmed it happened on the A252 Canterbury Road in Challock.

The authority said the tree had fallen onto some telephone cables at about 5.15pm.

A van then crashed into with the fallen tree near the junction with Faversham Road.

Police were sent to the scene, along with BT engineers.

A police spokesman earlier said: "The incident is blocking the road. A van has also been involved in a collision with the fallen tree.

"There are currently no reported injuries.

"Kent Highways and BT have been contacted to clear the tree.

The road was eventually cleared at around 7.20pm.
