Faversham Town boss Ray Turner says his side have nothing to lose against Maidstone United

Faversham boss Ray Turner says confidence is high as his side try to complete a memorable Ryman League Division 1 South double over Maidstone on Saturday.

Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Burgess Hill Town was Town’s first win in seven games and ended a run of five defeats in their previous six encounters.

After an excellent 2-1 win at the Shepherd Neame Stadium in November, Turner’s side can go 12th with victory at Bourne Park on Saturday.

He said: "Tuesday was quite an important win for us in the end. I knew the result would come eventually but it’s been a while since we’ve won a game, so this will give us confidence."

He added: "It has given us some breathing space on the teams at the bottom. We are 10 points clear now and hopefully we can start looking up."

After a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Folkestone on Saturday Turner (pictured) said the Burgess Hill win would give his side added confidence going into Saturday’s clash with the Stones.

He added: "We’ve already beaten them this season and that gives us confidence. The pressure is off us, they need the points more than we do and the expectation is on them."

Turner also cooled speculation that striker Damian Abel could return for another spell at Salters Lane after a dispute at Whitstable, adding: "Turner said: "I rate Damian, he did a good job for us while at Faversham and it is a shame that he left the club. There has been no contact with him."
