Faversham boss Ray Turner cancelled training this week as he bids to help his squad prepare for a double trip to Sussex.

The Lilywhites are on a run of one defeat in 10 in Ryman League, Division 1 South and Saturday’s win at Chipstead saw them go second, only for Tuesday’s draw at home to Ramsgate to allow Dulwich Hamlet to retake their position.

Town travel to resurgent Eastbourne on Saturday and Horsham on Tuesday, as owners of the division’s best away record with 33 points from 15 games.

Turner (pictured) faces a selection headache this weekend, though, as Luke Harvey will miss both games through suspension, while defender James Peacock could be sidelined for three weeks with strained knee ligaments.

Keeper Simon Overland played through a sickness bug on Tuesday and with back-up Dan Ellis out for the season with a back injury, Turner admitted: “I don’t even want to think about what I’d do if Simon doesn’t recover.”

Saturday’s match-winner Dave Botterill missed the Ramsgate game with the same bug, while Danny Hockton was hampered by the same illness.

Training has been called off on Thursday night and Turner said: “The suspensions and injuries are starting to mount up and we already have such a small squad.

“We just wanted to give them a break, told them to stay at home and hopefully give them a chance to get back fit and well for the weekend.”
