Faversham Town players face Gillingham on Thursday and attend a training camp in Margate at the weekend

Faversham Town players are set to face a gruelling test on and off the field in the next few days.

Ray Turner’s side will meet a Gillingham XI at home on Thursday night before embarking on a training camp in Margate over the weekend.

Turner (pictured) wants his side in peak condition when the season starts in three weeks and after last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Kent League Herne Bay, he knows there is still some tinkering to do.

He said: "We were beaten by the better side and that’s not an issue because they have a strong squad and they will be looking to do well in their league.

"They came motivated and from our point of view, it was just another workout. We played a different system in the first and second half but there were no excuses.

"We’ve got work to do but we’ll use it as a positive. We have some good characters and they know what I expect and we’ll knuckle down and make sure it is right for August 20."

A young Gillingham side will head to Salters Lane tonight to give Turner’s side another examination.

Turner will hope to have Nigerian forward Joseph Afusi back involved, after he finished a trial at Gillingham.
