Faversham Town's confidence growing says Ray Turner ahead of FA Cup clash at Carshalton Athletic

Faversham boss Ray Turner says his side will travel to Carshalton for Saturday’s FA Cup first qualifying round in a more confident frame of mind than seemed likely three weeks ago.

Then the Lilywhites had no points and no goals after their opening three games in Ryman League Division 1 South but Tuesday’s goalless home draw with Whyteleafe extended their unbeaten run to four matches.

Turner (pictured) said: "We are growing in confidence now and if we can keep accumulating points at this stage of the season then that will take the pressure off later on."

The Faversham boss felt his side should have picked up three on Tuesday rather than one, adding: "It was a tight game and both sides had chances but we created the better ones."

It had been a different story at Walton & Hersham on Saturday, when goals by Aaron Quain (2) and Adrian Stone had given the Lilywhites a 3-2 win.

Turner said: "We were excellent on Saturday and so it was disappointing on Tuesday because our performance then was a bit flat in comparison."

Town will pick up £3,000 if they pull off a surprise win against their Ryman League Premier Division opponents.

"Carshalton are a club with a long and proud history. They get good crowds and I don’t think many people will be expecting us to win," said Turner.

"But the fact we are playing a team like Carshalton in the cup marks another stage in the club’s development."
