Firefighters in six fire engines and a bulk water carrier were called to the scene at about 11.40am.
On arrival, they found the fire had spread to about 500m of hedgerow, as well as to the outhouse of a nearby property.
They managed to bring the flames under control using water, and extinguished the blaze by about 1.30pm.
Photos taken by Anthony Robinson show the devastation the fire caused to his mother-in-law's back garden.
Carolyne Hoare's lawn has been left blackened by the flames, which have also totally gutted an outhouse.
There were no reported casualties and the cause is not yet known.
