Firefighters waded into the River Stour in Canterbury city centre this afternoon to rescue a pigeon which had become trapped in netting.

They were called by staff from the Ask restaurant, who had found the bird caught in fine netting covering a window overlooking the river.

A crew from Canterbury fire station went to the scene with an RSPCA officer at about 3.10pm.
