A Freshers Ball at the University of Kent took a turn for the worse last night.

As students returned to their university halls, one young man had trouble getting back into his flat so took an alternative route ... up a tree.

But he ended up getting stuck and one fire engine and an ambulance were called out to rescue him at around 10.30pm.

Canterbury fire crews used a ladder to bring the man down and after being checked over by paramedics, he appeared not to have any injuries.

The man was left in the care of staff at the university medical centre.

Amused students took to social media to tell the Twittersphere about the poor man.
