Hundreds of East Kent youngsters flock to Canterbury

HUNDREDS of walkers converged on Canterbury Cathedral on Easter Monday as part of the traditional Youth Pilgrimage.

They set off from various parts of east Kent that morning and walked to the city for a service in the Cathedral at noon.

The Archbishop, Dr Rowan Williams, led one of the groups from Chartham. Included were walkers from St Mary’s Church, Chilham, as well as those from River, Tenterden, Bearsted and Ashford.

The Bishop in Canterbury, the Rt Rev Stephen Venner, led another group which had left from St Nicholas Church, Sturry, and which was joined by walkers from Margate and Ramsgate, while the Bishop of Maidstone, the Rt Rev Graham Cray, led the third group from St Mary’s Church, Patrixbourne.

After meeting at the Cathedral all three groups filed into the nave for the service of celebration, which was followed by refreshments in the Chapter House.
